What is THE PUNCTUATION BETWEEN about?
Six years ago, a doctor told Lex the monsters stalking them were figments of their imagination. As far as Lex is concerned, that doctor was an idiot. Now seventeen, non-binary Lex’s Figments have been consistently feeding off their energy in a very un-imaginary way, riddling them with doubt, emptiness, and a distaste for mirrors. Lex’s last defense against succumbing to the Figments’ full sway is the company of their best friend Finch. And, okay, they maybe-kinda-sorta love him in a potentially permanent, (and definitely one-sided), way. Finch may not know about Lex’s Figments, but he’s always been there, and always will be. Or he would have been before his acceptance to his dream school—across the country.
As Lex’s worst fears are realized, Anna swings into their life. She’s perfect: prettier than any eighteen-year-old should be, shy, and struggling with the same loneliness spurned from losing a best friend. So what if it isn’t true love? With Anna comes an opportunity not to be alone when Finch leaves. It would be a perfect solution, if a brush with death didn’t prompt Finch to confessing Lex’s feelings aren’t so one-sided after all. Behind door number one: Lex dating pretty, troubled, safe Anna, hoping love might bloom. Behind door number two: Lex risking heartbreak for a chance at real love with Finch, knowing it has an expiration date. Behind door number three: Lex single-handedly destroying both relationships under the sway of the Figments. |
